A lead’s status is a staff-managed pipeline label: review the visitor’s details and conversation, choose the most appropriate status, and use the status filters to focus on one group at a time.

Open the AI Leads dashboard

Sign in to WordPress with an account that has permission to manage the plugin.

Open Click to Chat → AI Assistant in the WordPress admin menu.

Choose AI Leads in the AI Assistant navigation.

Find the lead you want to review. Use the search field or a status filter to narrow the list.

The AI Leads screen includes lead details, score and intent indicators, a status selector for each row, and a lead-details view. The source registers the lead-list and status-update REST endpoints with an administrator permission check.

Screenshot to add: Replace this empty image with a real screenshot of Click to Chat → AI Assistant → AI Leads. This is a placeholder, not a captured screenshot.

Understand the available lead statuses

The dashboard provides these status labels. Use them consistently with your team’s follow-up process; they are workflow labels, not a guarantee of a lead’s buying behavior.

New: A captured lead that has not yet been marked with a later follow-up status. In the plugin’s default capture flow, a new lead starts as Qualified if its score meets the configured threshold; otherwise it starts as New.

Contacted: Use after a team member has attempted or completed an initial follow-up with the lead.

Qualified: Use when the lead appears relevant and worth pursuing based on the captured details and your own review. The configured score threshold can also assign this as the initial status when a lead is captured.

Converted: Use when the lead has reached your business’s defined conversion outcome, such as becoming a customer. The plugin does not define which business event counts as conversion.

Discarded: Use when the lead should no longer be pursued, for example because it is irrelevant or not actionable. Follow your team’s policy before discarding a record.

Update a lead’s status

You can update the status directly in the lead table or from the lead-details view.

Locate the lead in the AI Leads list.

In that row’s status dropdown, select New, Contacted, Qualified, Converted, or Discarded.

To review context first, use the row’s view-details control to open the lead details. Change the Status dropdown in the details view’s footer.

Wait for the dashboard’s success notice. If an error notice appears, the change was not confirmed; try again or investigate the error before relying on the displayed status.

What changes when you update a status?

When the status update succeeds, the plugin writes the selected status to the lead record and updates its
updated_at
timestamp. The dashboard updates the visible row and, if the same lead is open, the status shown in the details view. It displays a success notice after a successful response.

A status change is not the same as recalculating the lead score. The reviewed source does not show this handler changing the score, editing the conversation transcript, or automatically sending a follow-up message when the status changes. The update method stores the current status and timestamp; it does not maintain a separate status-transition history in this handler.

If you change a lead’s status while viewing a filtered list, the row may remain visible in that list until you reload or select a filter again. The filter request queries records by their saved status, so refresh the list when you need to confirm the lead’s placement in the new status group.

Use the status filters

At the top of the dashboard, select one of these filters:

All Leads: View leads across statuses.

New: Focus on leads that still need an initial review or follow-up.

Contacted: Review leads where outreach has been recorded.

Qualified: Prioritize leads marked as worth pursuing.

Converted: Review leads marked as converted according to your business process.

Discarded: Review leads marked as no longer being pursued.

Selecting a filter changes the status query and returns the dashboard to the first page of results. You can also use the search field to find leads by supported contact and requirement fields. Combine search and a status filter when you need to find a particular lead in one pipeline group.

Recommended team workflow

Review new records and check their contact details, intent indicators, score, and conversation context.

Mark a lead Contacted after recording your outreach according to your internal process.

Move relevant opportunities to Qualified after human review; do not rely on a score alone.

Use Converted only when your defined conversion outcome is met.

Use Discarded for records your team has decided not to pursue, following your data-handling policy.

Periodically review each filter so leads are not overlooked and status labels are used consistently across the team.

Related lead management guides

Lead Capture and Qualification — configure capture and understand how the initial status is assigned.

Configure Conversational Lead Capture — choose the fields visitors can submit.

Review Lead Intent Scores — understand score and intent indicators alongside lead status.

Review AI Chat Transcripts — inspect conversation context before deciding how to follow up.

Export Captured Leads — export records and handle downloaded data securely.

Learn how to update AI lead statuses, understand New, Contacted, Qualified, Converted, and Discarded, and use dashboard filters to manage follow-up.

["post-94","doc","type-doc","status-publish","hentry
["GET
