Connect Google Gemini

Configure Google Gemini as the translation provider.

TranslateSense can send selected text and strings to Google Gemini for translation. You can enter a Gemini API key in TranslateSense or use a compatible WordPress AI Connector when the plugin detects one and it is installed and configured.

Before you begin

  • Install and activate TranslateSense and Polylang.
  • For direct API configuration, have a Google AI Studio API key. Use Google AI Studio API keys to create or manage a key.
  • If TranslateSense displays a WordPress AI Connector for Google Gemini, configure the provider in WordPress Connectors rather than duplicating its credentials in TranslateSense.

Configure Google Gemini

  1. Open Languages → TranslateSense. If Polylang is not active, the settings page is registered under Settings → TranslateSense.
  2. In AI Translation Engines & Models, enable Google Gemini AI.
  3. If you are using direct API configuration, enter your key in Gemini API Key.
  4. When the provider is connected, choose an available option from Translation Model. The list is supplied by the available provider configuration and may vary.
  5. Choose Google Gemini AI in Default Engine if Gemini should be the default provider.
  6. Select Save Settings, or press Ctrl + S while the settings form is active.

If WordPress AI Connector is shown

Use the displayed link to manage the Google Gemini connector in WordPress Connectors. Confirm that the connector is active and connected. When a connector is installed and selected for a request, a disconnected or inactive connector can cause the request to fail instead of falling back to the direct Gemini API.

Verify the setup

Confirm that Gemini is enabled and its status and model list are available. Test with a small, non-sensitive translation. If the request fails, check the credential or connector state, model availability, and Google AI account limits. Never publish an API key in screenshots or documentation.
