Connect Google Gemini

Connect Google Gemini to Dragwyb Click to Chat with a Google AI API key, select an available model, and test the provider response.

Dragwyb Click to Chat includes a Google Gemini provider card in the AI Assistant’s provider settings. Connect it by adding a Google AI API key, selecting an available model, and making Google Gemini the active provider. The model list is populated by the installed provider integration and may change as the provider API changes.

Get a Google AI API key

  1. Open Google AI Studio API keys and sign in to the Google account you intend to use.
  2. Create or select an API key according to Google’s current instructions.
  3. Keep the key private. Do not paste it into a public support request, documentation page, or visitor-facing chatbot prompt.

Connect Google Gemini in WordPress

  1. In WordPress admin, open Click to Chat → AI Assistant.
  2. Select AI Engine & Prompt and find AI Providers & API Keys.
  3. Locate the Google Gemini provider card and enter the key in its API Key field.
  4. Use the screen’s save action to store the provider credential. The plugin’s provider settings endpoint requires the WordPress manage_options capability.
  5. After the key is configured, select an available value from Active Model if the model selector is shown.
  6. Make Google Gemini the active provider using the provider card’s active toggle, then save the AI Engine settings.

In the inspected version, Google Gemini is shown as a provider available without the Pro add-on. The default configured model in version 1.2.0 is gemini-3.5-flash-lite, but the available models are retrieved from the provider integration and the installed settings may differ.

Test a Gemini response

  1. Open Chat Preview in the AI Assistant admin screen, or use a controlled test page where the chatbot is enabled.
  2. Send a simple question that does not require private customer information.
  3. Confirm that the response is returned and is consistent with the selected model and system instructions.
  4. If the request fails, verify the key and provider account status, confirm the selected model is available, and review Error Logs for the plugin’s recorded error.

Saving a key does not prove that the provider will accept requests or that a particular model is available to your account. Check Google’s current account and API requirements if the test fails.
